Born in Flint, Michigan, Vincent Brick aka Vinny Bricks grew up
the son of a performing Blues/Rock guitarist, and was heavily influenced
by early exposure to a diverse mix of rock, blues and soul. At age
nine he began learning to play guitar, and in the following years
spread out to bass guitar, percussion and keyboards, jamming with
friends at every opportunity. By the age of 15 Vinny was playing
his first paying gigs with local rock bands in the Youngstown, Ohio
area.

Vinny
discovered the rave scene in 1994, and was immediately mesmerized
and intrigued by the art of turntablism and live dance music. Moving
to Phoenix, Arizona in 1996 to go to school for Audio Engineering,
Vinny began working with old friend and former bandmate Ken Petrosky
(aka DJ Cluster Poindexter) and his company, Kids Under The Carpet
booking and promoting parties inside the Arizona dance music scene.
Inspiration struck with the thrift store find of a twenty-year-old
Moog synthesizer, in a few short months Vincent acquired enough equipment
to start laying down original techno, and in the summer of 1998 he
played his first live p.a. alongside a cast of well-known national
acts at a sizable rave in Phoenix. Around this time, he also completed
the Master Recording Program at the Conservatory of Recording Arts
and Sciences in Tempe, AZ. |

Vinny
then returned to Ohio where he obtained an internship at a large commercial
recording facility in downtown Cincinnati, and eventually went on
to a day job at a Cincinnati audio/video production and duplication
firm. In the preceding months Vinny had acquired a very deep and highly
influential appreciation for house music, and a pair of Technics turntables
was purchased as he took a more serious interest in DJing. Upon Petrosky's
relocation to Cincy, the duo formed For Those Who Know as a vehicle
to promote their music; together the two began cutting dub plates,
and they launched a website that exposed their music to people around
the world. |
